Interview with Boog

In our first interview, we sit down with the club’s leader, Boog, to learn about their personality, philosophy, and the vision required to build a top-tier competitive team.

I’m the leader of TheLeftovers. We aren’t a fancy group. We’re just a bunch of fun loving idiots with poor decision making skills.

How long have you been playing euchre and what do you like about this card game?
30+ years

What advice would you give to a beginner euchre player?
Find a new game to play. This game will make you question your life choices all too often.

Why Euchre.com, what brought you here?
I ask myself that same question every. freaking. day.

What are the three words that best describe you as a player?
CHILI CHAMPION EXTRAORDINARE

What do you think are the most common mistakes made in Euchre?
1) Bleeding your partner’s trump 2) not playing defense 3) partnering with Ange 4) not paying attention 5) partnering with Ange 6) being too patient 7) being too impatient 8) forgetting it’s just a game

Good cards or good partner? Which one do you care more about?
Cards. I can sometimes manage a win without a good partner; but I can’t magically turn chicken poo into chicken salad with bad cards.

Did you manage to make new friends on Euchre.com?
I’ve made a ton of friends and they continue to be the only reason I haven’t (permanently) performed a rage uninstall of the app.

Who is the partner with whom you played the most memorable games on Euchre.com?
Ange the bird killer.

I don’t compete. I arrive. The chili championship was sealed the moment I lifted the lid and let the room feel it. No recipe, no measurements, just vibes and reckless confidence. Judges leaned back in their chairs like they’d just heard a ghost story. First place. They asked what was in it. I told them time, pressure, and none of their freaking business.

Hilton Head was simply a formality. Two-time Invitational Open champion. I walked the course like I owned the grass. I putted slow, stared too long, and never explained myself. The ball kept dropping out of fear or respect, I’m not sure which. People clapped, asked for autographs and threw undergarments at me as I left the course. This is the life of a real champion.

JPhelps’ Euchre Tournament ended in second place because Euchre is a liar. I called it thin, nodded like a prophet, and then watched the deck betray me in public. Tragic. Iconic. The kind of loss people bring up years later for no reason. I didn’t win the trophy simply because I chose not to. Sometimes the real fun is watching others think they actually earned their victory
